Wikipedia - VC Maaseik

Greenyard Maaseik is a Belgian professional men's volleyball club from the city of Maaseik. They compete in the Euro Millions Volley League.

History

Mavoc Maaseik, the club's original name, was established in 1960, originating from the "Het Heilig Kruis College Maaseik" school. In the '75 -'76 season, Mavoc changed its name to D & V Motors with the support of a new head sponsor and celebrated its promotion to the highest division in Belgium, the Eredivisie. Since '76, the team has competed in the Eredivisie, embarking on a successful journey. In '85 -'86, Mr. Emile De Bruyn, the general director of SCANA-NOLIKO, and Mathi Raedschelders, the president, provided additional support to the team. NOLIKO became the head sponsor, and under the coaching of Jos Klaps, Noliko won the Cup. In '85 - '86, NOLIKO Maaseik played its first European match against SC Leipzig on November 1, 1986.

In '90 -'91, the club became the "Champion of Belgium" for the first time in its history and won the Cup for the second time, with Bert Goedkoop as the coach. Eddy Evens, named player of the year, became the Technical Director and, along with Mr. De Bruyn, founded the business club AGORA "Zakenvrienden Noliko Maaseik". A new facility was constructed, including a full-time secretary and a high-quality restaurant.

In '93-'94 and '94-'95, the club reached the quarter-finals of the CEV Cup but lost against Padova (Ita) and Nizhnevartovsk (Rus). Since the inception of the Champions League in 1996, it is the only team in Europe to have participated in the first five editions. Under head coach Anders Kristiansson, they achieved the following European results: '96 (5th), '97 (2nd), where they lost the final against Modena (Ita), '98 (4th), '99 (2nd), where they lost the final against Treviso (Ita) in Almeria, and '00 (3rd), where they won the small final against Vienna (Aus) in Treviso.

Today, all players and coaches are professionals, and the organization is managed by a full-time manager with assistants, alongside many volunteers. The club currently comprises:

  • NOLIKO Maaseik: Competing in the Belgian Championship (Eredivisie).
  • AGORA: Business club established in 1992, including administration and a restaurant.
  • NOLIKO Youth: Consisting of 200 boys and girls playing at various levels based on their motivation.
  • Regio-Club: Founded in 1996 as a collaboration for youth players with 38 clubs from the province.
  • FORTIS Tournament: An international tournament for six teams held since 1989.
  • Beach Volley: Featuring eight permanent beach volleyball courts behind the sports hall since 1995.

In April 2002, Scana Noliko and the volleyball club signed a new agreement for another two-year contract. General Director Dominique Stinckens and Club President Mathi Raedschelders signed a sponsorship contract for the 18th and 19th seasons since 1985, marking a unique milestone in the Belgian sports world.
